Scraps Project

Scraps is a game that we've been focusing on for the past few Projects and Portfolio classes. We have been tasked to design a level that fits the theme and vision of a post-apocalyptic future where the rich prosper and the poor have to fend for themselves and scavenge to make a living. For the final project, I had to work on a team to connect our levels and make it to the end of the game. I've been excited to dive into level design to let my creativity flow and see what I can do.

Postmortem:     Scraps Project

What Went Right:

Level Design - My level from concept to design was pretty consistent in terms of my vision for it. I had two mechanics that I wanted to work with and I knew that I wanted to have an underground part of my level and after some hiccups, I was able to make it work the way I wanted to.

My understanding of Scripts and Unity - With all of the trouble I had figuring out how to get certain scripts to work as well as figuring out which object is talking to what, my understanding of the logic behind coding and my understanding of game objects has grown. As they say, practice makes perfect and I can see the improvements as I continue to try and work on my own things

What Went Wrong:

Complacency - I've mentioned this a little in the last point but I settled for a lot of things during the project. There were ideas that I had and kind of tried implementing but thinking "you know what that's fine the way it is." when in reality, it can always be better. I think the mix of time and stress really got to me and made me just want to get things done. I need to keep striving for what's best no matter what.

Conclusion: Overall, I had so much fun designing my level for this project, I had fun learning and figuring things out with my team, and getting the experience of working on a project for a game. I'm proud of the level that I made, I put a lot of work into it and I think it shows. I'm glad for my teammates as well because their levels were all unique and Unfortunately, I didn't express that in my presentation but If I were to do it all again I would practice and make sure that what I'm conveying shows through
